What is Communism?
I know, but I'm willing to bet YOU don't
For more than 20 years I”ve been trying to explain to people that they truly don’t understand what COMMUNISM is, or was meant to be. It was NEVER a blueprint for a dictatorship, nor is it a how-to manual for Authoritarians. What it really is, is a critique and historical analysis of Capitalism and the class struggle within. The “Manifesto” is a theoretical argument for a CLASSLESS society.
To say that it was written as a dictators guidebook is simply rooted in IGNORANCE and Cold War PROPAGANDA. Personally, as someone who read it in about 2002, and understood it in my 20s. I’ve struggled to understand why it is, that so many people would rather fall for blatant LIES rather than pick up a copy of the book, and read it for themselves. For me it has raised a side quest into why humanity has become so ignorant. Stay tuned for more on that.
The idea behind the Communist Manifesto is centered around class struggles. Marx argues that all of history is the history of class struggle. This is more true today than it was in 1848 when Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels first published the document.
Capitalism divides us into mainly 2 categories or classes. You have the Bourgeoisie, these are the people at the top, the elites, those who own everything and the means of producing everything. These people in our reality are the Donald Trump’s and Elon Musk’s, the Wexner’s, in Canada we have the Westons, etc. They own everything, the land, the factories, and the CAPITAL. The other class are the Proletariat, or the rest of us. We sell our labour to the Bourgeoisie to survive. Then in turn, the Bourgeoisie extract profits, by paying their underlings (that’s you and me) much less than the value of that which they produce. Marx accurately calls out this EXPLOITATION. It’s exploitation as a means to become, or stay a wealthy Bourgeoisie. This itself is a mechanism of CAPITALISM. To keep the Proletariats indebted to the Bourgeoisie for their very existence.
Communism by definition as defined by Marx means; Collective ownership of all means of production. Zero permanent economic classes. No poor, middle, and elite. No differentiating people into societal structure that is meant to oppress and keep people poor by design. There are NO permanent economic classes, NO inherited wealth or power, and absolutely NO state ruling over people. Which means NO AUTHORITARIAN or DICTATOR. This is what every dumb-ass MOTHERFUCKER who pretends “COMMUNISM BAD” will try to tell you. Which only proves they NEVER BOTHERED TO READ IT. Not only that, but it also proves they didn’t bother to GOOGLE it, before opening their IGNORANT face hole either.
The biggest tell is when these people claim Communism has a DICTATOR. This is 100% false. The end goal of Communism is this; It would be a society where the STATE no longer exists. For those who don’t understand what the STATE is, ultimately the STATE is always controlled by the Bourgeoisie to protect their interests. The government, the police, the courts etc. (the State) will always end up controlled by the elite. It would be a society where NO one class has power or authority over another. And where production is organized to meet the needs of HUMANITY. Not for profit. It’s a STATELESS, CLASSLESS society. And, lets face it, this is the REAL reason it has NEVER been achieved. Because the PATRIARCHY currently controlled by the Bourgeoisie refuses to give up their power.
Where MEN get Communism wrong is with the transition from Capitalist society to Communist society. This requires a temporary phase where the working class collectively controls political power. It requires the dismantling of Capitalist control over institutions. It is a full transition toward eliminating class divide. It isn’t meant to create a DICTATOR who controls everything, but the exact opposite of that. This phase ends when class conflict ends and the STATE no longer exists. “Dictatorship of the Proletariat” didn’t ever call for a single AUTHORITY or DICTATOR. That is a poor interpretation based again in PURE IGNORANCE.
Communism completely abolishes private ownership of capital, exploitation of labour, class hierarchy, and wage slavery. Marx was VERY CLEAR on this. What Communism doesn’t change is, your personal property (house, clothing, personal possessions etc.) There is no attack on anyone’s INDIVIDUALITY or creativity. And it does absolutely NOT change anything about family structure or familial bonds. Imagine what we could all accomplish if we were all offered the same opportunities, like free education. Or a healthcare structure that doesn’t bankrupt us and cause loss of life to those who CAN’T AFFORD it.
Marx believed Capitalism would fail because of the internal contradictions of the entire structure. The transfer of wealth over time into fewer hands. We can see the evidence that he was 100% right when we look at the vast divide between rich and poor today. The top 1.6% of adults own 48% of global wealth, while the bottom owns about 2%. The richest 10% hold 85% of all of the wealth on EARTH as of January 8, 2026. According to my Google search. So I’ve just shown you proof that Marx was 100% right when he said Capitalism only creates MASSIVE wealth inequality. It requires endless growth, and it alienates workers from their labour, and each other. Thus producing and endless recurring economic crisis. Marx believed humanity would figure out that Capitalism is NOT SUSTAINABLE. He believed the workers would figure this out and DEMAND a different structure that wouldn’t exploit them. Which is the reason I felt compelled to try to make people understand this AGAIN!!!
The Communist Manifesto has been FEARED forever in this Capitalist world. Because Marx was 100% right about EVERYTHING. He might as well have been a fortune teller or a mystic. Part of me feels like he was enlightened because he somehow saw what was happening today, and he found a way to prevent it. But nobody listened. Instead they spent the last 178 years twisting his words, in turn making COMMUNISM into a dirty word itself. When in reality Communism was meant to save all of us.
The manifesto doesn’t design a detailed government system, nor does it call for Authoritarian rule. It doesn’t even predict or lay out what Communism looks like in practice. Every regime that has existed and been labeled “Communist” was nowhere even close to what Marx was describing. It has NEVER been achieved. So, basically if you call China a Communist country, you’re very misguided and even IGNORANT. Because China is no such thing! China is called “Communist” based on an IDIOTS interpretation of a book, they clearly didn’t read.
So why is Communism thought to be synonymous with a dictatorship then you ask?
A great question that is answered by looking at human history. The belief came from COLD WAR PROPAGANDA. They conflated Marx’s theory with later Authoritarian States. Completely ignoring Marx’s insistence that the STATE is ultimately DISSOLVED. Leaving behind NO DICTATOR or AUTHORITARIAN regime. Marx was critical of centralized power, as we all should be. Marx’s view of the State was that it is a tool of CLASS DOMINATION. Something to be abolished, NOT worshipped.
In Summary, Marx’s Communist Manifesto argues that CAPITALISM inevitably produces exploitation and inequality. The purpose of the manifesto was to propose a CLASSLESS, STATELESS society with collective ownership of production. It NEVER proposed any DICTATORSHIP. The purpose was exactly the opposite of that. It was about how to save HUMANITY and create EQUALITY.

Thank you. I've been frustrated over the ignorance of humanity for a very long time. Marx was right about everything.
I’m so glad you mentioned patriarchy because this unnatural hierarchy too often is left out of discourse (including Marx’s) and in my mind, the more I learn, patriarchy and capitalism are becoming two words for the same bigoted worship of corruption. It seems that matriarchy (cultural priority to meet needs starting with the most vulnerable first, not profit) would have no use for capitalism, outside of a child’s board game to teach about how insane it is. It suggests to me that with gender equality this irrational economy of deceit and human trafficking would essentially dissolve. Everything I learn maintains gynophobic chauvinism at the top of my list of worst atrocities afflicting humanity, capitalism being its worst side effect, and climate change as the worst consequence of the pollution caused by that capitalism.
